Heritage Project
GLADD is pleased to be working in partnership with Aunt Nell, the UK’s only LGBTQ+ led podcast production company, on a new and exciting heritage project that will trace GLADD’s history and record the unique stories of current and past GLADD members.
GLADD has received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £83,114 for a project that will unlock our heritage and secure these important stories in our archive at the Bishopsgate Institute. This is an important opportunity to capture the stories of LGBTQ+ doctors and dentists from the 1960s to today.
This project will allow us to expand GLADD’s archive through the collection of oral histories, ephemera and archival records, and produce a documentary podcast that explores our heritage and its impact on healthcare for LGBTQ+ people. We will also use this opportunity to embed heritage as a core strand of activity within the future work of GLADD.
Get involved
We are looking for people to be involved in a number of ways. You could share your memories via an oral history interview, contribute items to the archive, advise on the project or volunteer to help with interviewing and production. Contributions are welcome from former and current LGBTQ+ doctors, dentists, medical and dental students, and those who have insights into medical education or policy over the time period.
You can use this form to find out more about how to be involved and express an interest in contributing:
