Mentoring

We know that being LGBTQ+ in medicine and dentistry can present unique challenges as well as opportunities. GLADD is able to provide support for issues you might come across affecting patients, staff or yourselves, as well as LGBTQ+ health more widely. If you need advice, we will always do our best to act as friendly faces and signpost you on to other resources if needed.

Our mentoring programme is open to all members, including students. The programme matches you with another GLADD member based on your interests, with a view to developing networking and a sense of belonging within the membership. A mentoring relationship is very individual, with mentees taking ownership of the process.

I would say the scheme is highly recommended! I was lucky to be part of it and feel so much better!

Mentee

For mentees, it is an opportunity for support and guidance for your studies, career or life as an LGBTQ+ professional. Don't worry if you're not sure where you want your career to go just yet; mentors are happy to help out in whatever way they can.

For mentors, it is an opportunity to connect and give back to the community, as well as developing leadership and management skills. Mentors can be anyone with appropriate skills & experience and do not have to be senior in their field. We can signpost to online learning in mentoring skills for those interested.

After you sign up, we will be in touch with more information about the process, building mentoring relationships and feedback. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Please note that the programme is informal and does not offer counselling or professional support. For more guidance, check out our support pages.
